Actually I have a 2007 Model FJ Cruiser with 17,000 miles and on the last trip taken I got 22 mpg Highway. I'm very happy with my FJ.
Comments about autoMedia 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUVs:
The FJ Cruiser is a capable vehicle off the show-room floor, particularly if you opt for the locking differentials. If you do any off-roading, be it the Colorado mountains or Utah deserts, the lockers do the job. My factory rock skids (NOT the step boards) have held up on Moab slick rock ledges. The front skid plate is weak but easily replaced after you use it up. There are many decent after-market parts for both performance and expanding capacities. The other reviewer should know that manufacturers will consider your warranty void if you make modifications upon which they can pin any mechanical or other failures. Be careful if you lift the FJ, this is not a big pickup and you will need to take into account the change in geometry when you do more than a 3" lift. I would like to see a V8 model and I did increase the hp some by adding a great air intake system. In addition to the off-road capabilities, allowing you build your driving skill, the FJ is just plain fun to drive.

I purchased my FJ in May of 2008 and with 57 miles on it and already have it up to 1200 miles just from one road trip and work. I'm a geologist and usually have some horrible places to get to, and to this point I haven't been stuck yet. My FJ was fully loaded with the Off-Road package and has the matching interior to the exterior, so that is very unique and a catchy feature to it as well. I've gotten anywhere from 19-24 mpg so far, depending on whether I've run the air the whole time, been fully loaded and such, and am averaging 21 on the highway and 16 in the city, so not something I'd recommend for going short distances, but for country/highway, off roading and trips definately a keeper!

I purchased In Oct 2007 and use mostly for commuting, about 140-180 miles per day as a sales rep. I find the vehicle very comfortable and easy to drive, plenty of power and room. I added an aftermarket Magnaflow exhaust and K&N air filter for better mileage (I average 20-21 mpg consistently), I have only taken off-road onto beaches,no back-country yet, it is fantastic, way better than my Trailblazer or Cherokee Sport. No rattles or shakes.

Bought my FJ 2008 last oct 2007. Have had nothing but fun since. But mine is stock. First time I've had a rear locker and there is no where I can't go. Don't have a lift have't needed one. West Utah desert and San Raphel Desert are my best stomping grounds. Wife loves to drive it to work. Only real draw back is that the gas tank could be bigger. 20 mpg and 19 gal don't last long Would buy another one.

Mine has a 6" lift, professionally installed, 35" tires, looks great, front differential needs replaced, of course Toyota says it's the Pro Comp lift and won't cover, any of the other manufactures will cover up to 6" professionally installed.. Nice to see they gave Pro Comp rigs to fix up and use, but they certainly wont back their vehicle if you buy the products..Toyota at forst thought it was the rear diff, since they had problems with one they had out in the woods.
