2000 Ranger front brake pads and rotors

I removed and replaced the right front brake pad and rotor. Now I have a metal to metal rubbing sound when I drive. Any idea what is going on?

You either put them in backwards (I had a racing crew chief do that to me once) or it's your left that squealing or you haven't "bedded" the brakes. To bed the brakes, get them up to high temperature by dragging the brake with your left foot and then, when they're nice and hot, do an emergency stop. It also could be rust on the rotors.

When you replace one side only usuallythe other side will lock up if thatisnt it tak it back off take brake fluid cap off use a C clamp to mash cylinder in slowly until its all the way in do not turn bleeder bolt reinstall pads put cap back on pump brakes 2 or3 times it should work good luck

They are both right, however I havent heard anyone indicating the importance of safety here, even your life or others sharing the road with your vehicle. When replacing brake pads, shocks, rotors, coils, even the calipers, etc  these needs to be done as pairs, not just the bad side otherwise your car will drift to one side or pull, unusuall rocking etc. Brake pads should have both left and right replaced at the same time especially if you have ABS. No shop will replace only one side (its dangerious) even if you purchased a brand new rotor, they both should be turned ( surfaced) every manufactor is alittle different in thickness. You can just purchase one rotor but you still should take both rotors to a machine shop and have them surfaced to matching thickness.

You get the idea, when it come to any steering or suspenions parts should not be done half ass, in a crediticle situation when these things come under extreme situation you need them to work correctly, when done half ass you have up the chances of loosing control causing your death or injury to someone else.

Don't forget to use a torque wrench to thighten your lug nuts evenally otherwise your rotor will warp/ causing Brake Pedal Wabble

    Other over looked items.

When you over heat your engine, you need to change your motor oil right away, oil never breakdown but the chemicals that protect your engine in the oil has been skorched (burnt) even if you changed it yesterday it must be done otherwise you must just run on vegitable oil (not really),  change, Coolent, Thermostst

    GOOD LUCK-HOPE THIS HELPS

don't worry about the sound. Tha's a good sound, it means the pads are working well, soon it will be gone. New pads ussually does that. Because its still thick, and it guarantees that the pads are having a friction to the tire.
