    Clutch and Slave Cly.

I have an old  car that I put a 302 with a T-5 tanny in. I have a pull type Slave cylinder in it and it adjustment rod has broke twice. Ok I had it too tight

I belive was the reason for that. This thing has AWAYS push hard!!! And I MEAN HARD!!!  Could I have a missmatch in the bore of

Master cyl. and the slave. Would it cause this? Or am I just not getting the full stroke of the slave?  I'm thing of putting in a

Push slave with a longer stroke. I'm using the orginal pedels could this be a cause? Not sure what the bore size of the Master cyl. is but the slave is

    7/8".

As you're aware, any time you're modifying a car without specific instructions (and often even then) strange things happen. Sounds as if the slave or master cylinder is too small. Can you get a set that originally came with the T5. Or I could teach you how to shift without a clutch. It's not hard. I think that's why my wife married me. She had a Pinto that regularly lost its slave cylinder and I showed her how to shift without a clutch. With older cars you never need touch the clutch...start it in first or reverse and go. Get a good battery, though.

    Clutch

Thanks for the info but after building it took so long I just want the clutch to work the way it should.  Know what I mean. I agree with you on one of them being to small of a bore. As I can not tell what size the master bore is without tearing it out ( BIG PAIN ) I thought I would get a 1" bore push slave and figure out a Mouting bracket and try it. I could make the bracket so I could Mount different slaves in case That didn't work. Do you think this would be an easy way to solve the problem? Slave is easy to get to and work on. Dennis

A bigger slave may work. (What's the politically correct term for "slave cylinder"?) Before I did that, I'd make dang sure the mastercylinder was getting all its fluid to the slave.

It might be easier to learn to shift without using the clutch. I tore my ACL skiing--never got hurt racing--so I got good at shifting without the clutch. It's no big deal, you just have to match engine speed and transmission speed. I learned to do it on a '59 F100. Learned to heel-and-toe on it too. I could downshift into the non-syncro first gear.
