    brake upgrade question.

Hi I'm new I'll go as ACMERUNNER I'm a machinist for the last 15yrs. but for 15 before that I

worked in autobody shops was icar certified in the early 90's .   N ow my hobbie is restoring my first house and a '69 Nova.  I've done the body work and am getting readt to paint soon.

I've upgraded to front disc non power kit from SSBC. I have a 12 bolt posi drum brakes in rear

out of a truck I think not original. I was in a salvage yard not long ago and came across a 2000

jimmy 4X4 frame with rear axle and front axle no body just axles and frame. and calipers and hardware.

Question could the rear disc brake system be addapted to my 12 bolt?

I can probly get this done by myself for $100 or so WHt you think.

I hope to hear from somone  thank from  ACMERUNNER

    Re: brake upgrade question.

Brakes are the very last on the list of upgrades. Rear brakes are below that. (Front brakes do 80 percent of the stopping.)

Unless the car came with drums, don't do a brake "upgrade". For every brake "upgrade" I tested, about two half were WORSE than stock in stopping power. And another third were no better.

If brakes from, say, a 92 Camaro bolted right on, I might change my opinion. But you'd have to know how to properly install--and bleed--the ABS system to gain a benefit.

My advice: Get first-class summer tires and learn how to go through corners faster. (One of my race car owners told me "We get tires for free, but have to pay for brakes. Learn how to go through corners faster."
