Cadillac will soon expand the current CTS range with both a coupe and a wagon. The sharp-angled coupe made the show circuit last season, and the recently unveiled sport wagon is about to begin its marketing tour of duty in anticipation of a spring 2009 on-sale date.
The wagon shares the same 113.4-inch wheelbase as the CTS sedan and is 0.3-inch shorter. However, it offers 25 cubic feet of cargo area behind the rear seats. The versatility is enhanced with a cargo management system that includes in-floor storage. Plus, the wagon has roof rails for storage top side. Ultimately, this is the CTS for those who gaze longingly at SUVs, but don’t want to compromise driving dynamics.
Like the sedan, the wagon features an independent short/long arm (SLA) front suspension system and a multi-link rear suspension. This hardware is complimented by four-channel, four-disc ABS with the full-function traction control, hydraulic brake assist, and stability control.
The base engine is a 3.6-liter, 263-horsepower V-6 that should prove quite energetic. For more driving thrills, a direct-injection 3.6-liter will be available with 304 horsepower. Yet, unlike powerplants with similar output from competing luxury brands, this will run on regular gasoline. Overseas markets will also have a 2.9-liter, 250-horsepower turbodiesel—an option that sounds quite appealing. All-wheel drive will be an option.
