2009 Hyundai Genesis Pricing Announced

2009 Hyundai Genesis sedanHyundai will expand its portfolio this July with the introduction of its new Genesis flagship sedan, moving the brand into luxury territory at a near-lux price. The Genesis will start at $33,000 for the base 290-horsepower V-6 model and just $38,000 for the 375-horsepower V-8 model.

The base 3.8-liter V6 is mated to an Aisin six-speed automatic transmission, while the all-new Tau 4.6-liter V8 engine mated to a ZF six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai boasts high fuel economy numbers, with 18 city/27 highway and 17 city/25 highway, respectively.

The base model includes leather upholstery, power seats with heat, push-button start, proximity entry, dual-zone climate control system, HomeLink, AM/FM/CD/MP3/XM audio system with iPod/USB and auxiliary input jacks, Bluetooth, and floor mats. On the safety front, it includes anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, front and rear seat-mounted side airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags, electronic front head restraints, and fog lamps.

Making the modest step up to the V-8 model adds upgraded leather surfaces, power glass moonroof, power tilt and telescopic steering column, integrated memory system, 15-speaker surround sound audio system, six-disc CD changer, illuminated scuff plates, power rear sunshade, rain-sensing wipers with auto defogger windshield, and 18-inch wheels.

Based on an all-new, rear-drive platform, the Genesis was designed to compete with the Cadillac CTS and Lexus ES, among others, yet be priced thousands less. The performance numbers and feature equipment are certainly enough to turn heads, and if the latest Hyundai products are a fair indicator, the Genesis could be a serious alternative to the luxury mainstays, providedd customers can look beyond brand prestige and dealership pampering.
