Toyota unveiled the third-generation Sienna minivan at the 2009 LA Auto Show this week. The new 2011 minivan makes an evolutionary step forward from the current, laudable Sienna. It will be offered in five trim levels, with seven- and eight-passenger configurations. All-wheel-drive will remain a distinguishing option. For the new year, Toyota adds a four-cylinder engine choice. The 2.7-liter produces 187 horsepower, and it is expected to be EPA-rated at 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway. The 3.5-liter V-6 churns out 266 horsepower, while returning 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Even the base LE model is generously equipped with family transport essentials, such as cruise control, three-zone climate control, power windows with jam protection, AM/FM/XM/CD stereo with auxiliary input, and remote keyless entry. All Siennas feature anti-lock brakes, stability control, brake assist, and traction control. As shoppers progress through the trim lines, upscale infotainment and creature comforts become available. Examples include a 10-speaker JBL audio system, voice-recognition navigation system, rearview camera, rear dual-view entertainment system, and dual moonroof. The Limited packs Lexus-like options such as HID headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, power split/fold third-row seat, and pre-collision system with radar-based cruise control. The XLE and Limited can be fitted with the new Safety Connect telematics system.Toyota has added an SE trim for 2011, giving the Sienna a more sporting character. The SE has a sharper appearance, enhanced with a body kit, smoked tail lamp covers, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. The SE runs on a lowered suspension, giving it an edgier character. Look for the Sienna to begin arriving at dealerships in February 2010. Expect deals on the outgoing, and highly appealing, Sienna. Read our 2009 Toyota Sienna review.
