Coat the new filter's gasket with clean oil. This keeps the gasket from drying out and makes the filter easier to remove at the next oil change.

remove oil drain plug
oil change parts and tools
raise vehicle to change oil
oil plug removal and inspect
remove oil filter
difficulty removing oil filter
coat oil filter gasket with oil
fill engine with oil
check oil level with dipstick
