In auto racing, good drivers know that to finish first, they must first finish. Achieving this goal requires more than good driving skills and watching out for fellow competitors. The vehicle must also survive the rigors of racing. So what does this all have to do with passenger cars?
Taking Care
The important point is the value of saving your equipment. After all, the finish line for street-driven cars is indefinite, and depends much on how well you take care of your vehicle.
Having been a Master Auto Technician for many years, I know from firsthand experience just what the value of equipment awareness is. That awareness has made me—and saved my customers—a lot of money. Before that, though, I just want to make the point that the vehicle Owner's Manual should be read studiously, and followed strictly. Any directives found in the Owner's Manual should take precedence over the suggestions made here. They will almost always agree with my advice, but there are those isolated occasions...
Keep in mind, also, that we're not going to cover all of the details regarding all situations; just the high and most useful points. And some of those may not be found in the manual.
