The Pontiac car brand was a part of General Motors since 1926. Through the years, Pontiac was cast as the affordable performance division, offering a step up in content and styling from oft-similar Chevrolet models. Pontiac is largely credited for kicking off the famed 1960s muscle car era with its big-engined, midsized Tempest GTO. The Firebird, Fiero, and more recently the G8 all have contributed to the brand’s legacy. However, the final chapter has been written, as a troubled GM shuttered the brand, along with Saturn, after emerging from bankruptcy proceedings in 2009.
