Description:
The Corolla has a well-deserved reputation as a reliable compact sedan with excellent fuel economy and resale value. Offered in four trim levels, the Corolla family range includes the frugal CE, the sport-minded S, the well-equipped LE, and Celica-spirited XRS. The three volume trim lines are each powered by a 126-hp, 1.8-liter I-4 with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy ratings for the CE, S, and LE are 32/41 city/hwy for the manual gearbox and 30/38 for the automatic. These Corollas all have an impressive suspension that absorbs road aberrations well. Though not tuned for aggressive driving, these sedans are impressive on sweeping turns when pushed. Those seeking more driving thrills will gravitate to the XRS, which features a specially tuned variant of the 2ZZ DOHC engine also used in the Matrix. In the Corolla, the engine has more low-end and mid-level power with a similar 6000+ rpm rush. A complete package, the entertaining XRS boasts a six-speed manual transmission, sporty suspension, 16-inch wheels, enhanced steering system, “S” exterior trim, bolstered bucket seats, and uplevel interior trim. Key safety equipment, such as side air bags and stability control, is optional for most trims.
