Description:
Pontiac developed the current Grand Prix with an eye on European sport sedans, ensuring it lived up to the “excitement division” promise. The base engine is the well-regarded (albeit long-lived) 3.8-liter V-6 with 200 horsepower. A somewhat recent addition to the line is a 5.3-liter V-8 with 303-hp and 323 lb-ft of torque steer. The eight-cylinder engine adds tremendous grunt, but it also packs the front end with additional weight that effects the handling balance. The standard four-speed automatic transmission conspires with the traction control system to enable hard launches with grin-inducing tire spin. Clearly, this is a car calibrated for fun. Likewise, the Stabilitrak stability control system enables enough sliding motion to entertain, yet it helps correct rapid rotation or simple over indulgence. The Grand Prix has a traditional roster of standard amenities, such as air conditioning, power windows/locks, keyless entry, rear defogger, and cruise control. The GXP piles on a heads-up display, rear spoiler, Tapshift paddle shifters, and 18-inch wheels.
