Since its inception in the late ’80s, the Eclipse has been a favorite among younger and older buyers in search of a sporty, fun-to-drive, compact coupe with plenty of look-at-me style. This is likely the reason behind the Eclipse’s pivotal role as one of the most significant vehicles of the immense tuner movement. The Eclipse is currently in its fourth generation. Unlike its past iterations though, the once immature, tuner-oriented Eclipse now exudes a pleasant combination of sleek exterior design, comfortable interior refinements and real performance beyond that of any of its predecessors. Under its hood, the entry Eclipse GS boasts a 2.4-liter four cylinder engine that develops 162 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. The upscale GT version receives the more powerful 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 263 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque.
