Description:
The Grand Cherokee hasn’t strayed from the doctrine over three generations, providing outstanding off-road capability in a well-mannered, midsize SUV. The largest Jeep Cherokee model, the Overland, boasts abundant platinum-look, wood, and leather trim, along with a generous feature roster that includes DVD-based navigation radio, ParkSense, side air bags, and trailer package. A modestly equipped Laredo with a 3.7-liter 210 horsepower V-6 starts the range. Progressing through trim levels and engines sees a 305 horsepower 4.7-liter V-8, a 330 horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 and a 420 horsepower 6.1-liter V-8 offered, along with three 4WD systems. The Quadra-Drive II setup with electronic limited-slip differentials provides amazing climbing abilities, even with the mild factory-fitted tires. Performance enthusiasts will note that the large Hemi V-8 provides more horsepower than the 4.7-liter, yet delivers similar fuel economy thanks to its cylinder deactivation system. For the ultimate in performance, there is the SRT8. With a full-time 4WD system, 420-horsepower V-8, lowered suspension, and enlarged brakes, the SRT8 packs the goods to face European challengers costing many thousands more. Additionally, a 3.0-liter 215 horsepower turbo-diesel V-6 is available.
