Description:
Rather than a traditional Jeep, the Compass qualifies as a compact crossover. Though lacking the Trail Rated status that other Jeeps enjoy, it can tackle milder off-road adventures. A 4WD-Lock button enhances capability on slightly rougher terrain. Built on a passenger-car chassis, the Compass is related to the new Caliber hatchback, despite its considerably taller stance. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 179 horsepower. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard, but Jeep offers a continuously variable transmission (CVT). In Limited trim, the CVT gains AutoStick manual selection of virtual "gears." Electronic Stability Control and side airbags are standard. ABS incorporates rough-road detection.
