Shh! The Ford Explorer appreciates silence. Engineering adjustments to previous models make the current generation the quietest Ford Explorer ever – 10-percent quieter than the previous generation in fact, and 20-percent quieter than the Toyota 4Runner. Adjustments to the roof panel, an improved moonroof wind deflector, reshaped, larger mirrors, and improved noise-absorbing interior materials were all factors that helped to reduce wind noise. Standard powertrain is a 4.0-liter 210 horsepower V-6 with five-speed automatic transmission, and an optional 4.6-liter 292 horsepower V-8 is available with a six-speed auto. Both powertrains have the option of rear- or four-wheel drive. Those seeking something a bit more ruged might find the Explorer SportTrac SUT of interest. By offering the comfort of silence, the Explorer is a clear step up from many competitors.

Re: Why is my car overheating?My guess is what you're experiencing is every rubber part in the car dying at once. Have you ever changed the radiator hoses? Heater hoses?

How big was the overhaul? Could be poorly installed rings. Did the guy hone the bore?
