| | Honda selected the smaller end of the size scale for its fun little passenger car: the subcompact Fit. Available now for its second year, it competes against the also-tiny Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris, earning EPA fuel-economy estimates up to 33/38 mpg. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard. Honda claims the available five-speed automatic transmission is the first in this segment. The 1.5-liter VTEC four-cylinder engine develops 109 horsepower. Side-impact and curtain-type airbags are standard, along with ABS. Honda's "Magic Seat" allows rear seatbacks to fold down or seat bottoms to flip up. When automatic-equipped, the Fit Sport adds steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. |
