| | Some replacements resemble their predecessors. Others steer a fresh course. Dodge'’s substitute for the departed Neon is not only 4 inches taller, but a hatchback rather than a sedan. Billed as a "small car that acts big," the Caliber resembles a shrunken Magnum and offers three four-cylinder engines, developing 148, 158 or 172 horsepower. A 2.4-liter 300 horsepower engine is available with the tough little SRT4 model. Either a five-speed manual gearbox, six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission may be installed. With the 2.4-liter engine and R/T package, an AutoStick CVT (with six discrete "gear" ratios) mates with all-wheel drive. A "Chill Zone" accessory cools beverages inside the glovebox. ABS is standard only with the CVT. |
