Description:
Classed as subcompact, the new Yaris comes in sedan and liftback form to compete against the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa. On sale since spring 2006, the Yaris is built on all-new platforms. Sedans are more than 19 inches longer. Central instrument clusters highlight the simple dashboard. The liftback's front passenger seat has a "walk-in" lever for rear access. Shared with Prius, the 106-hp, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine features variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i). A five-speed manual gearbox is standard. The optional four-speed automatic transmission incorporates uphill/downhill shift logic. Curtain and side airbags, and antilock braking, are available but not standard.
