Description:
Based on the GM Epsilon platform that also underpins the Chevrolet Malibu, the Saab 9-3 line continues to grow. The lineup includes convertible, sedan, and wagon (aka SportCombi) configurations. These front-drive cars are each offered in 2.0T and Aero trims, defined most by the engines. The 2.0T is fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 210 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. For a so-called base model, it packs a healthy roster of standard equipment, such as automatic climate control system, leather upholstery, faux wood trim, power driver’s seat, and 150-watt, seven-speaker stereo with an auxiliary audio input. Safety equipment includes daytime running lights, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, traction control, electronic stability control, active head restraints, side air bags, and side curtain air bags. Stepping up to the Aero sees horsepower increase to 250 from a 2.8-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, available with six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Overall equipment level is elevated with a sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch wheels, 300-watt stereo, six-disc in-dash changer, moonroof, and Xenon headlamps. A new addition to the line up, the SportCombi increases the rear cargo capacity with a sharp squaring of the rear, avoiding a typical wagon appearance.
