Description:
A mechanical twin to the Ford Ranger, the Mazda B-Series roster includes three trim lines, three engines, and two body styles. Collectively, this range offers fewer variations than key competitors, both import and domestic. Further, the Ranger and B-Series are the oldest trucks in the small-truck segment, without receiving significant updates in the 21st century. The B-Series is offered in regular and extended-cab configurations; no crew cab is offered. Engine offerings start with a 2.3-liter 143-hp four-cylinder, with either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. The midlevel engine is a 3.0-liter V6 with 154 horsepower and significantly more torque than the four banger. The B4000 “Cab Plus” four-door boasts a 4.0-liter V-6 engine with 207 horsepower, and it has standard shift-on-the-fly 4WD. The B-Series trucks are sparsely equipped to start, like real trucks should. Expect the base model to have a bench front seat, two-speaker AM/FM stereo, steel wheels, and black bumper. Options are quite limited, but the sole SE-5 package adds desirable items, such as air conditioning, cruise control, carpet and floor mats, AM/FM/CD stereo, and aluminum wheels. Anti-lock brakes are standard on all B-Series trucks, though side air bags and electronic stability control are not offered.
