2007 Volkswagen Eos
| | Retractable hardtops are edging into the marketplace, as traditional fabric-roofed convertibles stagnate. Following the lead of Volvo's C70, Volkswagen introduced the Eos, at a substantially lower price. Named for the Greek goddess of dawn, the smoothly curved two-door seats four occupants. Volkswagen's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out a healthy 200 horsepower, but a 250-hp V-6 also is available. Touch a button and in 25 seconds, the metal roof goes through clever machinations and hides away. A glass sunroof is built into the roof. Either a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) may be installed.
