2007 Toyota Tacoma
| | Toyota redesigned the Tacoma line for 2005, moving the once-definitive compact pickup into midsize territory. The Tacoma grew in every dimension, and it even has a large range of body configurations. There are 18 Tacomas in all, starting with three cab configurations (regular, extended, and crew), two bed lengths, and choice of 4x2 and 4x4. Then there are the speciality variants, like the popular PreRunner—a 2WD truck outfitted like 4WD pickup, complete with the tires and suspension. At the other end of the spectrum is the X-Runner, a performance-tuned sport truck with a taut, lowered suspension, dramatic body work, 18-inch wheels, sport seats, V-6 engine, and six-speed manual transmission. Two engines are offered, a torquey 159-hp, 2.7-liter I-4 and a strong 236-hp, 4.0-liter V-6 whose output challenges some V-8s. Features include a tire pressure monitor system, service reminder light, and dual-stage front air bags for models with the bench front seat. These smart air bags have been standard on Tacomas with bucket seats. The Tacoma succeeds in combining truck-toughness with a refined cabin, creating a vehicle line well suited to both personal and commercial use. |
