| | Highlander has defined the midsized crossover vehicle, putting a SUV shape on a platform shared with the Camry, then powering it with a drivetrain also shared with sedans. The resulting vehicle has a compliant ride, comfortable passenger space with command seating, generous cargo capacity, and all-weather ability. The crossover formula has since been replicated by more than a dozen competitors, but the Highlander remains a leader with its continued evolution. The Highlander is available with a fold-away third-row seating for even more interior flexibility. Recently, Toyota added a new Sport trim with heightened trim elements, sport suspension (4WD only), and a base V-6 AWD Highlander. Together with the Lexus RX 400h, the Highlander offers a hybrid option in the midsized category. Traditional engines are available, with a 155-hp I-4 and 215-hp V-6, a hybrid engine is available with a 268 horsepower 3.3-liter V-6. All powerplants are available with either 2WD or 4WD. Each Highlander is equipped with stability control, traction control, and anti-lock brakes. |
