With strong entries from competitors BMW, Audi and Lexus, the fight for supremacy of the luxury compact segment is fierce. Pulling up to the line on behalf of luxury leader Mercedes-Benz is the popular, and diverse, C-Class. As the entry model in America’s most extensive luxury lineup, the celebrated C-Class has something of a split personality. With several sport and luxury focused variations available, the C-Class also comes with a range of powertrain options. Powering the base C230 Sport Sedan is a 2.5-liter DOHC V-6 that generates 201 hp and 181 lb.-ft. of torque. At the opposite end of the C-Class spectrum is the impressive C55 AMG, a stout little sedan motivated by an AMG-built 5.5-liter V-8 engine that pumps out 362 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque.
