Redesigned for 2006, the all-new ML-Class luxury SUV rides on a platform shared with the 2007 GL-Class. Together, the two models effectively split the market the original 1998-2005 ML covered. The ML is a five-seat, midsized SUV engineered for on-road performance and light, off-pavement excursions, where as the GL is a larger, three-row vehicle engineered to handle serious off-road challenges. This strategy has spawned an ML with improved driving manners and much more refined cabin. It is almost six inches longer and three inches wider than its predecessor, and it boasts a significant step forward in overall technology. The ML350 comes with a strong 3.5-liter, 268-hp, seven-speed automatic transmission, and full-time 4WD with hill descent and hill holding traction features. More power and luxury can be found in the ML500, with a 302-hp V-8, though most drivers without tow demands would find the thriftier V-6 to be more than adequate. Notable options include Appearance and Sport packages, height-adjustable Airmatic suspension with active damping, harman/kardon Logic 7 audio system, rear entertainment system, Keyless Go, park assist, power liftgate, and navigation system.
