After two generations of modest advancement, Honda truly raised the bar with the all-new Civic line up. Thoroughly redesigned, the 2006 Civic has sleek styling wrapped around a spacious interior destined to appeal to the Gran Turismo generation. A deep dash houses a digital instrument panel. The center stack accommodates Honda-simple controls and provides for an optional navigation system--a rare feature in this category. The sedan interior, in particular, is relatively spacious for the class providing good comfort, front and rear. The base 140-hp four-cylinder engine provides more power than the previous year, with exceptional fuel economy. A hybrid variant stretches gasoline even further, with a modest performance concession. Enthusiasts will gravitate toward the Si coupe, with its high-revving, 197-hp I-4 and sport-tuned suspension. (An Si sedan will be introduced for 2007.) All models come standard with side and side-curtain air bags, four-channel ABS, and active front head restraints.
