A perennial best seller, the Honda Accord range receives a mid-cycle freshening timed to counter-balance the launch of the redesigned Toyota Camry. The current Accord line was introduced for 2003, providing laudable refinement, power, and efficiency in the midsized segment. For 2006, these Accord hallmarks are highlighted with exterior enhancements, such as new front and rear fascias, grille, deck lid, and taillamps. Likewise, the interior features a new steering wheel, instrument panel, cloth fabrics, and increased application of sound-deadening material. Horsepower climbs incrementally on both the four- and six-cylinder engines, peaking at 166 and 244 horsepower, respectively. Enthusiasts will appreciate that a six-speed manual is now available with the V-6, providing surprisingly brisk acceleration for an otherwise sedate sedan. Both smooth-running engines combine low emissions and impressive fuel economy. The premium-priced Accord hybrid is sold more on feature content than fuel economy, as its real-world performance is on par with the four-cylinder model. All Accords boast front side air bags, side curtain air bags, daytime running lights, and anti-lock brakes. Six-cylinder models are equipped with electronic stability control.
