The 2006 Chevrolet HHR is the newborn baby of the GM family. Built on the Cobalt platform, HHR’s design is a throwback to the 1949 Chevy Suburban mixed with the SSR roadster. The three trims offered to shoppers include LS, with a 2.2-liter 143-hp four-cylinder engine, 1LT, standard with the 2.2-liter four-cylinder, though with the option of a 2.4-liter 172-hp four-cylinder, and the 2LT, standard with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. All trims include five-speed manual transmission with four-speed automatic offered optionally. Small with a lot of storage and hauling space, HHR is in place to compete with Scion’s popular xB model. Air-conditioning, AM/FM/CD stereo with auxiliary input, and dual-stage frontal air bags all come standard. Side-curtain air bags are available for add-on. Cute yet tough, big yet small, and light yet hefty, the HHR will suit those who need a little of all worlds.
