The Chevy Cobalt, celebrating its second birthday in 2006, offers four trim levels to choose from. LS coupe and sedan, LT coupe and sedan, and LTZ as a sedan only. All come equipped with a 2.2 liter four-cylinder engine responsible for 145 horsepower and 155 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The fourth trim offered, new to the lineup this year, is the Cobalt SS. The SS coupe and sedan come packed with a 2.4L Ecotec VVT four-cylinder with 171 horsepower and 163 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000rpm, while the coupe-only SS Supercharged is propelled by a 205-hp and 200 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400rpm 2.0 liter SC engine utilizing an Eaton M62 supercharger. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard with the option of a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission for all levels except for the SS Supercharged, available with manual only. Performance-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc, and 17-inch alloys distinguish the SS sport compact as do specific badges and interior appointments.
