BMW offers shoppers two distinctly different yet similarly rooted SUV models for 2006. X3, BMW’s trimmer option, comes standard with a 225-hp 3.0-liter V-6. Updates for ’06 from the previous year’s X3 include front and rear bumpers that are now body-colored, newly designed 18-inch wheels with the available Sport Package, and additional chrome accents on the grill and beltline. The X5, the larger of the two siblings, offers three performance options. A 225-hp 3.0-liter V-6 comes standard, while 315-hp 4.4-liter and 355-hp 4.8-liter V-8s are available. Various packages and a slew of individual options allow buyers to personalize and tailor X3 and X5 to their needs. Both SUVs offer BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.
