2007 Honda Accord
After significant updates in 2006 (i.e., exterior freshening, more engine power, added safety features), the Accord enters 2007 with just the addition of a Special Edition V6 sedan. Such “SE” packages are traditional last-model-year offerings for Honda. The Accord is due to be redesigned for 2008 after five model years, though some industry rumors suggest the all-new Accord may not appear the 2009 model year.
2007 Honda Civic
Two additions to the Civic lineup mark the new model year: Si and GX sedans. For the first time, the Si magic has been applied to a four-door; the 197-hp engine, six-speed manual transmission, sport-tuned suspension, sporty exterior and interior cosmetic enhancements, and engaging performance have been carried over from the coupe. The GX marks the return of a natural-gas powered Civic variant. With the new Civic generation, the GX is supported with an at-home refueling station called Phil that can replenish the CNG overnight in a residential garage, resolving much of the infrastructure limitations faced previously.
2007 Honda CR-V
A complete, ground-up redesign for 2007 focuses on refinement. The new CR-V is slightly wider than the outgoing model, though most other dimensions remain similar. Power is up slightly to 166, as with the Element, and the four-cylinder is teamed with a standard five-speed automatic. On the road, the new CR-V looks and feels more sophisticated.
2007 Honda Element
The Element sees significant updates across the line, and an all-new SC variant added. Power increases to 166-hp and a five-speed automatic transmission supplants the previous four-speed unit. Front seat belts are now integrated in the seats, rather than the doors. Side-curtain air bags, stability control, brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring are all standard. The LX and EX have front-end freshening. The SC features a lowered suspension, large 18-inch wheels, monochrome exterior with lowered roofline (courtesy of slimmer trim), and hip interior appointments.
2007 Honda Fit
Just as gas prices climbed past $3/gallon nationwide, Honda introduce the subcompact Fit five-door with a thrifty 1.5-liter, 109-hp engine. Sold worldwide as the Jazz, the Fit is roomier than it looks with its key trick being a rear seat the folds forward, as well as flips up. A Sport model adds a body kit, fog lights, 15-inch aluminum wheels, 200-watt stereo, and steering-wheel paddle shifters.
2007 Honda Insight
The purpose-built, two-seat Insight hybrid has been retired. While there is no 2007 Insight, Honda is working on another, subcompact hybrid to join the Fit wee wagon in providing a highly efficient, affordable commuter transport.
