SEMA: Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition Brings Toys To Life

by Ryan ZumMallenon 10.29.2012 13:56

On the eve of the annual SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas, the Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition proves that automakers are listening to the car show crowds.

The original 1968 Custom Camaro toy, one of the original 16 Hot Wheels issued, remains one of the most valuable collectors items in the Hot Wheels world. Chevrolet is looking to tap into that nostalgia by producing a modern, real-life version of the iconic toy, and will offer the Hot Wheels Package on all V6 or V8 Camaro coupes or convertibles next year as a $6,995 option.

With a combination of addition parts inspired by toys and by the Camaro ZL1, the Hot Wheels Package commands attention with its dynamic stance. The front grille and rear spoiler are borrowed from the ZL1, while the ground effects package, black 21-inch wheels with red trim and flame graphics simply scream Hot Wheels. Inside, the black leather interior features red and black accent stitching with the Hot Wheels logo embroidered on the front seats.

The Hot Wheels Package is available on all Camaro models. The Camaro LT is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine making 323 horsepower, while the SS models feature a massive 6.2L V8. With an automatic transmission, the L99 engine boasts 400 horses and 410 lb.-ft of torque plus Active Fuel Management (similar to the new Corvette LT1 engine), while the manual transmission is equipped to an LS3 engine with 426 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft of torque.

Whichever you choose, the Camaro Hot Wheels Package is sure to leave an impression on both the road and track. We can’t wait to see what else Chevrolet is bringing to SEMA, because hey, you just might see it on the street sometime soon.

We’ll be reporting live from SEMA when the show kicks off in two weeks, so stay tuned for photos and video from the biggest aftermarket show in the world.
