Not even leaked images could ruin the 2013 Jaguar F-Type official debut. One of the most anticipated cars of the year finally dropped the disguises and said hello to the public at the Paris Motor Show yesterday, revealing a dynamic design that takes some daring chances and injects plenty of excitement into the luxury sports convertible segment. This is how Jaguar does a Scion FR-S.
Check out the official debut video below:
Design-wise, the 2013 F-Type sports an all-aluminum body and soft-top power convertible that drops to accentuate a curvaceous – indeed, feline-like – exterior with an aggressive front fascia that we saw in the leaked photo last week. Air ducts feed the front brakes for cooling purposes.
What we didn’t see in that photo is the rear, which stands confident and wide with a rear diffuser that means business and rear lights with a BMW Z8 style, though with a decidedly Jaguar twist. We can’t wait to get an up close look in person.
The 2013 Jaguar F-Type will be available in three trim levels: the F-Type (340 horsepower, 332 lb.-ft of torque, 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds), F-Type S (380/339/4.8) and F-Type V8 S (495/460/4.2). Prices will start around $69,000, $81,000 and $92,000 respectively. That sound you heard was the Mercedes-Benz SL550 re-examining its life choices.
The former two are powered by a 3.0L V6 while the F-Type V8 S boasts a 5.0L V8 – all three cars are fitted with an Eaton twin vortex supercharger and duel intercoolers, dual independent variable cam timing and active exhaust for enhanced ear-pleasure. Intelligent Start/Stop technology will keep fuel consumption down and a push-button Start will bring the F-Type to life. All trims transfer power to an eight-speed ‘Quickshift’ automatic transmission.
A low center of gravity and lightweight structure will pair with the potent engine options to offer perhaps the most agile Jaguar ever, and we’re anxious to get behind the wheel when Jaguar is ready to hand us the keys.
