We’ll finally catch a glimpse of the new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up truck this December, General Motors said today.
With brand new entries from the Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram, it became obvious that the Silverado needed a change to keep pace. The new truck should feature a striking new design and plenty of performance and capability to compete in the highly competitive domestic pick-up segment.
Sales had stalled recently; while purchases of the Silverado rose 3.6-percent in the first eight months of 2012, they dropped sharply this September with a 17-percent fall. The Silverado is still the second best-selling truck in America, behind the F-150, but that isn’t good enough for Chevrolet.
Today’s announcement came with a teaser image of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, showing the headlight and a portion of the front grille. The new headlight design is a rectangle within a chrome casing, protecting a projector beam headlamp that gives off a futuristic look, especially for a pick-up. This could be a hint that the Silverado will place extra emphasis on luxury – GM hinted earlier in the month that ride comfort will be a top priority.
GM will debut the truck at a special event in Detroit on December 13, and the Silverado will also make an appearance at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January. Production will begin early next year.
