2013 Buick Verano Turbo Priced at $29,990, Available This Fall

by Adam Burpeeon 08.14.2012 08:55

This fall, the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo will arrive at dealerships with a starting price of $29,990. The turbocharged luxury sedan is host to an Ecotec 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque at 2000 rpm.

The Verano Turbo is arriving to dealerships with high expectations. With direct injection and continuously variable valve timing, the Verano Turbo is reaching a new level of performance and fuel efficiency. The 6-speed manual transmission boasts an impressive 0-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds and a fuel economy rating of 20 mpg on the streets and 31 mpg on the highway. These specs for the automatic transmission have yet to be announced.

With the specs named above, the Verano is more powerful and gets better gas mileage than its competitors, namely the 2012 Lexus IS250, which has 204 horsepower and a 19/28 gas mileage spread.

In addition to the powerful engine, the Verano sports a dual exhaust, sports pedals, and a spoiler. The recently announced IntelliLink is going to be installed in this model, as well as a Bose 9-speaker system, leather interior, rearview camera, blind spot alert, and heated front seats and steering wheel.

Since its launch, the Verano has had a steady increase in sales, and once the 2013 Verano Turbo arrives, Buick expects sales to increase even more. The Verano was already a competent luxury car, but with the new performance and comfort upgrades, it’s expected to be an impressive 2013 model that can hold up against the competition.

A 4 cylinder with 20MPG city and only 31 hwy?  That's not great.  6.2 isn't super-impressive either.  You can get a naturally aspirated 6 with similar performance, the same (or often better) MPG, and likely higher reliability.

It's proving pretty tough to combine luxury, performance and efficiency for under $30k. I'm having a hard time thinking of a car that does it all as well as the Buick. Can you?
