Open-air speed freaks rejoice – the Scion FR-S might soon come in a convertible version, debuting this week as the Toyota FT-86 Open Top concept.
Toyota Motor Company recently announced it would unveil a convertible concept, called the FT-86 Open Top. The original FT-86 concept, which debuted in 2009, has roots tracing back to the Toyota 2000GT, the woefully short-lived 60's supercar. The FT-86 concept’s descendants sell in the U.S. market as the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ.
The details are sparse on this future Toyota, but some of the concept’s features include an electronically controlled soft-top hood, Milan-designed white and navy blue leather interior, and yellow-gold stitching on the floor mats. The concept’s platform is rumored to be the same as the Scion FR-S, giving the FT-86 a 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine, churning out a respectable 200 horsepower.
Whether or not this concept will go into production will be based on the public’s reception at the auto show. We're betting that won't be a problem. Watch out, Mazda Miata.
The Toyota FT-86 Open Top concept will debut at the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show later this week.
