Those dang Italians are at it again, and by “it” we mean designing the most drop-dead gorgeous cars on the planet like this incredible Pininfarina Sergio concept, of course.
Named after the master of seductive auto design, the Pininfarina Sergio sets out to top its iconic namesake with a design that oozes sex appeal, harkens back to a foregone age of form over function and simultaneously looks to the future. It’s hard to argue with the result: A topless roadster with an innovative roll-hoop structure and curves to make a Coke bottle blush. The famed design house will even build you a Pininfarina Sergio of your own – provided your bank account can handle the strain, of course.
Based off a Ferrari 458 Italia, and using all of its mechanical magic and might, the Pininfarina Sergio takes modern automotive design and catapults it forward by about a decade. The unique angles that adorn each corner of the car, distinctive engine cover and rounded – but not circular – taillights all scream that the Sergio is ahead of its time.
Bold design features include a blacked-out trunk compartment that wraps around the open-roof cabin, forward-facing roll bar and integrated rear wing, and tiny half-gullwing doors that makes us long for the days of the Le Mans running start.
This year’s Geneva Motor Show has taught us that the age of the supercar is far from dead; it’s simply evolving. The industry needs dramatic newcomers to keep it fresh and alive, and that’s exactly what we got with the Pininfarina Sergio. If the LaFerrari is about today, then the Sergio is about tomorrow.
What you’re looking at is the future of car design. The future looks bright to us.
