2014 Cadillac CTS To Debut At New York Auto Show

by Jessica Matsumoto on

Details are few on the 2014 Cadillac CTS, but we do know that the all-new sports sedan is slated to debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show next month.

Cadillac spokesperson David Caldwell told Edmunds last week that the new model is a complete overhaul, not a re-design, and unsurprisingly emphasized that the focus will be on design and performance.

The updates are timely considering the Cadillac CTS posted lukewarm sales for 2012, selling about 10,000 less than in 2011. With the redesign, Cadillac is hoping better compete against the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Last year, Cadillac introduced the smaller ATS sedan to glowing reviews, and the 2014 CTS redesign will also aim to better differentiate itself from the new baby brother.

Currently, underneath the streamlined hoods of the Base and Luxury CTS models lies a 3.0-liter direct-injected V6 with 270 hp. For those who want a little more zig to their Caddy, there is the CTS Sport Sedan, which comes equipped with a 3.6-liter direct-injected V6 with 318 hp. For you diesel fans, don’t expect a diesel Caddy any time soon.

"We do intend to introduce a diesel [to the Cadillac lineup] at some point," said Caldwell. General Motors recently unveiled the Chevrolet Cruze Diesel, but isn’t quite ready to introduce the technology to Cadillac. "We are working on a diesel powertrain. Where we'll apply it, we'll see."

Expect to hear much more about the 2014 Cadillac CTS as the New York Auto Show approaches. The all-new CTS should be on sale by the end of the year.
