It doesn’t get much more traditional than a British luxury car, and the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur making its public debut today turns back the clock with old school class and refinement. Oh, and did we mention a 615-horsepower W12 engine?
The newest addition to an extremely long line of great luxury cars, the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur combines elegance with power to spare. Bentley designers reworked the sedan shape to make it more athletic, with muscular rear haunches that pinch into a thinner rear end. It works in profile, creating a sloped appearance that makes the Flying Spur look ready for whatever you throw at it.
That doesn't mean it’s flawless, though. The front fascia remains largely unchanged from the Continental design that debuted more than ten years ago, and while the rear takes traditional British flavor and updates it for the times, it’s pretty non-descript and seems more willing to blend in than make a statement. The new Bentley Flying Spur may be more contemporary, but it certainly isn’t bold.
Performance, however, is another matter entirely. Bentley returns its 6.0L twin-turbo W12 engine to action, pumping out 615 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft of torque. The 2014 Flying Spur is one heavy car, but that’s enough muscle to rocket the car from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 200mph.
Inside, the opulent and lush cabin you’d expect from Bentley is on full display. Hand-crafted leathers and beautiful woods adorn the interior and a “Rear Seat Entertainment suite” allows passengers to control nearly everything in the car. That sound you heard was prospective Bentley customers licking their chops at the potential to customize one of their own.
