2013 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid
Just weeks ahead of its arrival in U.S. dealerships, the 2013 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid showed its plug-in chops during a media event where journalists drove an average of 4.4L/100km. European fuel economy is difficult and vague to translate to U.S. ratings, but essentially the Panamera S E-Hybrid averaged about 53.5 MPG over more than 700 miles. Not too shabby.
The Panamera S E-Hybrid hasn't been rated by U.S. fuel economy standards yet, but the New European Driving Cycle has it pegged for an average of 3.1L/100km, or approximately 75.9 MPG. One journalist on the driving event achieved 2.8L/100km, or more than 84 MPG. These numbers aren’t to be taken as fact, but they do beg the question: Has Porsche created the first great plug-in luxury sports car? More...

Competition in the hybrid segment is hotter than ever, and the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid responds with greater power and fuel economy at a cheaper price. Pretty hard to beat that combination.
Hyundai engineers aimed to improve the Sonata Hybrid from all angles, with a larger electric motor and battery pack. The electric motor has been increased from 30 kW to 35 kW in the 2013 model, while the 72-cell lithium-polymer battery pack has increased from 34 kW to 47 kW. The starter generator has also been enlarged to 10.5 kW. So what does it mean on the road? More...

Purists may not love the Porsche Panamera, but it’s hard to argue with its success. The model is a best-seller after only a few years on the market, and Porsche decided the time is right for a refresh with the 2014 Panamera. A plug-in E-Hybrid model and longer Executive trims will also be available for the first time.
The new 2014 Panamera definitely looks different at first glance, though the new design is subtle. Some of the elegance has been sacrificed in favor of more muscle, especially with larger front intakes and accent lines through the hood. The difference is easier to spot near the back, as rear hip lines are sharper and the rearview glass is stretched to accentuate the car’s width – not that it needed any help with that. Whether you love it or hate it, the new design does look more current. So how do the other changes stack up? More...

Subaru debuted the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid at the 2013 New York International Auto Show last week, the company’s first-ever production hybrid vehicle. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid “will be the most fuel-efficient and lowest-emissions AWD hybrid crossover in America,” claims Subaru.
While initially based on the popular, gas-powered 2013 Crosstrek, there have been some design updates with the hybrid version. For example, Subaru “re-engineered the chassis to handle the added weight of the battery system,” and “added extra sound insulation, an auto start/stop feature, revised HVAC, new gauge cluster, keyless start and numerous other changes.” More...
