After nearly ninety years, Ford will cease production operations in Australia by the year 2016 due to lagging sales and the struggling economy in that nation. The company has lost about $600 million in Australia in the past five years alone.
Ford will continue with their plans to launch new versions of favorites that Americans have lusted after for years, like the Falcon, Falcone Ute and Territory. They will also continue to build existing cars like the Kuga, Ranger and Focus for the next three years. After that, though, it’s curtains for the blue oval and the 1,200 production jobs they provide. More...

Besides Angelina Jolie in blonde braids and some of the most Nicolas Cage moments ever, the 2000 movie Gone In 60 Seconds left us one incredible gift: The 1967 Ford Mustang known as Eleanor. Over the weekend, Eleanor got the big payday she deserved, selling for a whopping $1 million at the Mecum Auctions in Indianapolis.
Eleanor is a ’67 Stang built to look like an extreme Shelby GT500, and the designers and fabricators at Cinema Vehicle Services came up with something that could not only star in a major motion picture, but launch an automotive icon. The debut of Eleanor tied the movie together, elevated the GT500 to even higher levels of cult-like status, and steered the automotive industry toward a retro era that led to new Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro models with an eye to the past. When Carroll Shelby met Ford Motors, they created a Mustang that would define the Mustang brand – the 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350. From these first Cobras, a prestigious line of Mustangs would follow, such as the famed 1968 Cobra Fastback driven in Bullitt.
The game-changing Mustang was less than a year old when Ford approached Carroll Shelby, famed automobile maker and race driver. Acclaimed for his 289 Cobra roadsters, Shelby did not have high hopes for race tuning the Mustang, saying that one “couldn’t make a mule into a race horse.” Fortunately, Shelby took on the project and turned the Mustang from a humble pony car to a serious racer at his Venice, California facility. Here’s how it happened. More...

Ford’s goal was to create 12,000 hourly jobs by 2015. Not even halfway through 2013, they’ve already achieved 75% of their goal.
With the truck segment growing three times as fast as the rest of the industry, Ford F-150 demand going out the roof, and the upcoming Transit full-size van, Ford has moved to start hiring more workers. For these reasons, Ford is adding 2,000 jobs this year at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. About 900 of these jobs and a third crew will be added in the third quarter of the year, and the remaining 1,100 jobs will be added in the fourth quarter, just in time for the all-new Transit. At the Auto Shanghai Expo, Ford Motor Company unveiled the Mondeo, the Fiesta, and the Escort Concept to the Asian market. After seeing exponential profits in China in 2011, Ford pledged to bring 15 models to the Chinese market by 2015.
Most exciting was the return of the cult-icon Escort in the form of a chic concept. As with most concepts, the details on the Escort were scant. On the outside, the Escort mirrors its sedan sisters, with its Aston Martin-esque front and streamlined body. Ford representatives seem particularly enthusiastic about the concept. More...

The first Ford Mustang made its official debut 49 years ago today, and what better way to celebrate than with a seven-digit present? On the anniversary of its unveiling at the 1964 New York Auto Show, the Ford Mustang reached 1,000,000 vehicles produced at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant over the past nine years. A red 2014 Ford Mustang convertible rolled off the line as the lucky round number earlier today. More...
