Sales of diesel cars in the United States have increased by 25 percent in the first six months of the year, according to a new report. Clean diesel technology, a relatively new addition to the American market, has shown considerable advancement in the past few years.
Up until a few years ago, most Americans would probably have associated the word diesel with big pickup trucks and 18-wheelers, spewing black smoke as they churned along the highway. In reality, the stereotype diminished years ago, and the negative stigma has only recently started to disappear. Compared to Europe, where almost half of all cars sold are diesel, the U.S. has never quite caught on to the diesel trend, until now. more

Audi is celebrating 25 years of TDI by releasing the special edition A7 TDI Competition, a faster and sportier A7 TDI. Not only will the A7 TDI Competition have more power than the standard A7, it will also have chassis improvements typically found on sports coupes.
It has been 25 years since the first Audi TDI, and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. The diesel engine has served its purpose for efficiency and hauling, but the Audi A7 will use it for a different reason entirely: sport. more

Sales of brand new cars making their introductions to buyers helped June auto sales climb even higher than expected, automakers and analysts said this week. The Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rates (SAAR) showed total sales hit 17 million during the month, up from an expected 16.3 million sales. It is the highest sales rate in the U.S. since 2006.
The biggest headlines belonged to luxury brands like Audi, Maserati and Porsche – each on the strength of new high-volume models. The new A3 improved its sales by 10-percent and helped Audi jump by 23-percent over June 2013. The new Maserati Ghibli did the same (233-percent), as did the Porsche Macan (11-percent). Others weren’t so lucky, however. more

Audi has announced changes to their 2015 model year lineup, from the entry level A3 Sedan up to the premium A8. For the redesigned A8 and other models, Audi will offer more standard features, plus a selection of their newest design options.
The A8 has been redesigned for the 2015 model year, featuring a wider body, improved engines, and more technology than ever. The base price will start at $77,400 for the standard wheelbase model, which uses a 333 horsepower supercharged V6. The optional 4 liter turbocharged V8 sees power jump to 435 horsepower, while still managing a respectable 29 mpg highway. The switch to the long wheelbase allows the selection of the TDI diesel, which brings highway mileage up to 36 mpg. more

Audi has designed lightweight suspension springs, made from polymer of all things. The new spring technology is slated to launch in Fall 2014.
The main component in the new springs is glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP), as opposed to the traditional steel spring. This drops overall weight by 40 percent, from 6 lbs down to around 3.5 lbs per spring. Total weight savings add up to almost 10 lbs, including a reduction in unsprung weight. more

ADAC 24h Rennen Nürburgring: Just seven days after winning at Le Mans, an Audi again crossed the finish line first in a twice around-the-clock enduro race. This time, it was the No. 4 Audi R8 LMS of Phoenix Racing taking the checkered flag at the Nürburgring 24 in convincing fashion.
The Audi won for the second time in three years, and set a new record for distance traveled over the 24 hours at 2,507 miles over 159 laps of the enormous circuit. The absence of rain helped that mark, surely, but so did solid strategy and a knack for avoiding injuries and accidents that collected other contenders one by one. more

Motorsports Monday: Audi Outlasts Toyota and Porsche At Le Mans
on 06.16.2014 10:18
World Endurance Championship - 24 Hours of Le Mans: The race that everyone had been waiting for did not disappoint. Fourteen years since Audi began their dominance in the event, three years since Toyota entered the fray and two years since Porsche announced this would be the year they threw their hat in the ring, Le Mans threw them all in a big pot and cooked up a classic.
But while all of those flavors sizzled and cooked in the gumbo, two of the most exciting ones eventually faded away. Porsche and Toyota both had troubles they couldn't overcome, and the indomitable force of Audi again became the main ingredient. The German factory team scored their 13 th overall Le Mans victory, moving to within three of the record (16) set by Porsche. more
Porsche and Audi Look To Add To Their Le Mans Legends
on 06.13.2014 12:30
With all the talk of Audi dominance and the long-awaited return of Porsche at the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, the final qualifying session saw the two winningest marques in race history on the outside looking in. It was, actually, Toyota that nabbed the top spot with a dominating lap of 3:21.789 on Friday.
Porsche managed a 3:22.146 to take second, but neither they nor Audi look as quick around La Sarthe as the team they’ll be following to the start line on Saturday morning. Of course, Le Mans is about a whole lot more than flat-out speed. In fact, both Porsche and Audi remain in prime position to contend for victory. Here’s why. more

Audi RS5 TDI Concept Revealed
on 06.01.2014 04:00
Audi’s RS5 TDI Concept is equal parts sacrilege and technological genius. The concept car takes the sporty RS5 and pairs it with a turbodiesel powerplant, creating what might be one of the most efficient sports cars yet.
In designing the RS5 TDI Concept, Audi has appeared to have thrown all sense out of the window. Rather than build the concept on a base A5, or even the premium S5, the company chose the RS5, the hardest and most track focused model in the A5 family. The engine, what many see as the defining feature of the RS5, has been replaced with a diesel, something typically associated with large trucks and heavy hauling. more
2015 Audi A7 and S7 Announced
on 05.24.2014 03:30
Audi has released information on the refreshed A7 and S7, featuring new engine and transmission options along with small design tweaks. Audi’s current plan only includes the German market vehicles, but don’t be surprised to see the North American market get many of the same features.
The A7 is Audi’s vision of a vehicle halfway between a sedan and a wagon, characterized by a long wheelbase and a sloping rear end. The sleek design has also lent itself to the sporty S and RS model lineup, complete with heavily turbocharged, massively powerful drivetrains. more
1981 Audi quattro Appreciation
on 05.22.2014 01:30
Audi was not the first manufacturer to utilize all-wheel drive, but the Audi quattro eventually became one of their most important vehicles. It is because of the original quattro that Audi has favored all-wheel drive in most all of their performance vehicles.
Production of the Audi quattro began in 1980, a time when all-wheel drive had only been popular for large off road vehicles. Audi was not the first company to put all-wheel drive into a production sedan, however the quattro would soon become the talk of the automotive industry. more
