Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on all versions. A four-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) is standard on the GT and available on V-6 models. Side airbags are standard. Standard on the V6 are 16-inch-diameter aluminum wheels while 17s are standard on the GT. Both V6 and GT are available with 18-inch diameter polished-aluminum wheels fitted with sticky P235/50ZR18 summer tires, which offer excellent traction on both wet and dry roads.
The standard sound system in the V6 is a very basic AM/FM radio with a single-CD changer. Premium versions of both the V6 and GT come with a powerful Shaker 500-watt system sound system that features eight speakers and a six-disc in-dash CD changer. The optional 1,000-watt system includes 10 speakers and a dual 500-watt thumper in the trunk. Also optional is a touch-screen DVD-based navigation system. The Bullitt package, after the movie of the same name, includes a cold-air induction system, strut tower braces, carbon-metallic front brake pads, sport tuned suspension and distinctive styling features.
Safety Awards
In government crash tests, the 2008 Mustang convertible scored the highest five-star rating in all categories. The coupe received the top rating in every category save passenger side impact, where it got four out of five stars. The convertible also earned the highest side-impact performance rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), while scoring the second-highest rating in the 40-mph frontal offset crash test.
Mustang prices start at under $20,000 for the base V6 model and under $27,000 for the GT. For 2009, America’s best-selling sporty car only gets better. Join the millions who have been served. (www.fordvehicles.com)
