Description:

Updated for 2009, the 8-passenger, 2nd-generation Honda Pilot gets bolder styling touches and more driving refinement, improving it as a competent crossover with few flaws. Slightly larger overall, as well as sporting bigger 17-inch wheels and tires, the new Pilot’s performance numbers have also increased. Engine output from the 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine is up by 6 horsepower, to the current 250. Torque output totals 13 lb.-ft. more than before, now rated at 253. Honda''''s next-generation Variable Cylinder Management system lets the V-6 (mated to a 5-speed automatic) run on three or four cylinders when conditions permit. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all Pilots are available with a VTM-4 all-wheel-drive system for "decision-free four-wheel drive." Four versions are offered: base LX, EX, EX-L (with leather-trimmed seating surfaces and a moonroof), and a new Touring model with a power tailgate and navigation system. Bluetooth Hands Free Link is standard on the Touring edition. New features on the 2009 Pilot include a tailgate with a lift-up glass hatch, a standard integrated tow hitch, and Hill Start Assist. The hood is now made of aluminum. Vehicle Stability Assist, traction control, and antilock braking are standard. So are front side-impact airbags and three-row curtain airbags. Active Head Restraints for the driver and front passenger are new for 2009. Four lower anchors and tethers for child seats are installed. Even more than its predecessor, the 2009 Pilot is solid and well behaved: about as refined as any crossover SUV is likely to get.
