Description:
The Escape revised 3.0-liter V-6 engine boasts 40 more horsepower than last year, thanks in part to variable intake-valve timing and a higher 10.3:1 compression ratio. Peak torque is an impressive 223 pound-feet at 4300 rpm. Just about everything was changed on the V6, including cylinder heads. The new electronic throttle control (aka “drive-by-wire”) replaces mechanical linkages between the engine and gas pedal: This also helps improve economy and performance. The V6 comes only with a new six-speed automatic, which replaces last year’s four-speed. A front-wheel-drive V6 Escape makes 26 mpg in the EPA highway test. With the optional trailer-towing package, a V6-equipped Escape can a tow trailer weighing up to 3500 pounds.
