Description:
Affordable, high-tech, high-performance elegance has always summed up the Acura TL. Styling for the newest generation takes the concept of change a little far courtesy of its across-Acura “power plenam” grille, which seems more fitting on Acura’s midsize MDX sport-utility than their luxury/sport sedans. However, since looks will only get you so far anyway, or nowhere at all, the 2009 TL offers two new VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) engines, depending on trim choice, that will definitely get you where you need to go—and fast. Like all Acuras, the newest TLs come loaded with premium standard features, but this year you can choose a front-wheel-drive version with a 3.5-liter, 280-horsepower V6 or the performance-packed SH-AWD model with a 3.7-liter, 305-hp V6, with VTEC for both intake and exhaust valves, and Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. SH-AWD blends front-rear torque distribution control and independently regulated torque distribution to the left and right rear wheels so the most ideal amount of torque is applied to all four wheels depending on driving conditions. Pretty fun. Pretty package? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Behind the wheel, though, the new TL is inarguably gorgeous.
