Steering feel is precise, responsive and linear: It’s okay to say it’s BMW-like because that was Pontiac’s target. Few will fully exploit the grip offered by the P245/45R18 summer tires, which are more accurately termed “three-season” tires. Those in northern states can get all-season tires, but will trade off wet and dry grip for limited mobility in snow. Nineteen-inch wheels equipped only with summer tires are available. V-6 models come on 18-inch all-season tires, with the 18-inch summer tires an option.
Interior Features
While the G8 retains Pontiac’s tradition of aggressive front styling, including a honeycomb grille and hood scoops, its flanks are crisp and free of the cheap plastic cladding that once plagued the brand. Granted, a lot of people liked cheap plastic cladding.
Inside, the G8 offers an extremely large interior. With the front seat adjusted full rearward for a driver who shops only at the Really Big and Tall Store, there was more than adequate rear legroom for a five-foot, nine-inch passenger. Climate controls and sound system are positioned a bit too low in the cockpit, requiring the driver to take his eyes off the road. There was a surprising amount of wind noise around the A-pillar.
Standard on the G8 GT is a Blaupunkt, 230-watt, 11-speaker sound system that features a six-disc CD changer and is MP3 compatible. Another standard is a remote starter system, great for those who live in northern climes or are afraid of car bombs.
All Pontiacs have 100,000-mile/five-year powertrain warranties and free roadside assistance for the same distance. Six airbags, including side-curtains, are standard on all G8s.
