2008 Lincoln Mark LT luxury truck
Continued from Page 1

While the LT is an authentic pickup that can be used as one, its exterior carries Lincoln luxury design cues. Its big, bold waterfall grille flows into a new body-color front bumper valance, and chrome lower bodyside cladding, chrome taillamp surrounds, a chrome Lincoln emblem on the body color tailgate, available chrome box rails and other bright accents—add ample touches of "bling" all around. For those who prefer a more subtle look, an available Monochrome Appearance Package substitutes body colored bumpers, mirror caps and grille surround but adds chrome step bars and 20-inch chrome aluminum wheels.

Capable and Elegant

The theme continues inside with tasteful chrome Lincoln stars on the seatbacks and console lid and genuine wood on the upper steering wheel arc, center stack and doors. Plush carpeting adorns the floor, and premium leather (in three available color combinations) is lavishly applied to the twin power-heated front captain's chairs and the 60/40 flip-up split rear bench as well as to the steering wheel, the center console and the floor shifter.

The LT's 300-hp 5.4-liter V-8 drives through an electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. It uses three valves per cylinder to enhance power and torque and electronic throttle control to improve torque modulation and response. And, while it pumps out a muscular 365 lb.-ft. of torque, it is surprisingly Lincoln-like (smooth, quiet and refined) at all speeds partially due to its tuned intake resonator and a low-restriction exhaust system. Like other rugged Ford trucks, the Mark LT boasts a rigid fully-boxed frame with ultra-strong body and suspension attachment points. Its quiet ride is enhanced by liquid-filled engine hydromounts, thick side window glass and inset doors with double-layer seals to help keep road, tire, wind, and engine noise outside.

A substantial contributor to the new LT's plush, yet connected, driving feel is its coil-over-shock, long-spindle, double-wishbone front suspension, which subtly absorbs bumps while retaining solid steering feel. The Hotchkis (live rear axle) rear suspension mounts its rear shocks outboard of the frame rails to maximize their ability to reduce body lean, a feature shared with no other pickup except Ford's F-150. The rack-and-pinion steering system, the largest, strongest and most rugged ever used in a Lincoln, impresses as linear and predictable and provides a relatively tight 46-foot turning circle. The large, powerful standard four-wheel discs are controlled by standard anti-lock braking (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), which actively manages braking force between the front and rear wheels to maximize braking, particularly while towing, to reduce braking distances.

Features and Options
It comes as no surprise that the LT's standard equipment load is generous. In addition to what we've already covered, it includes quad beam halogen headlamps with AutoLamp, fog lamps, power door locks with remote keyless entry and (Ford exclusive) keyless-entry keypad, power windows with a one-touch-down driver window, power heated mirrors with integrated turn signal lamps, electronic climate control, Audiophile AM/FM/MP3 stereo with six-disc in-dash CD changer, message center with trip computer, outside temperature and compass display, leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel with secondary radio and climate controls, 18-inch all-season tires (all-terrain on 4x4s) on machined cast-aluminum wheels, Ford Personal Safety System for driver and front passenger with dual-stage front airbags, occupant classification sensing, and Ford's SecuriLock anti-theft ignition system.
