Coupes are all about style. Why else would anyone sacrifice that second set of handy doors offered by sedans, some of which are pretty stylish themselves these days? This all-new 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe marries style to performance and a posh, sporty, functional interior, all of which raise the bar well beyond the already excellent G35 coupe it replaces.
Styling, Models, and Features
The G37 Coupe is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, with emotional surface development, sweeping character lines and tight panel gaps. Highlights include flowing front fender and hood curves, Infiniti-signature double-arch grille and L-shaped HID bi-xenon headlights with integrated fog lamps. The strong side character line and sills integrate with large wheel openings over 18- or 19-inch performance wheels and tires.
Around back, broad rear fenders flow into large LED taillamps, rear underbody air diffusers and large chrome dual exhaust outlets. An available rear spoiler ensures zero rear lift, balancing the car’s zero-lift front aerodynamics.
G37s come in three distinct flavors for 2008: base Coupe, Journey and Sport 6MT (6-speed manual transmission). Even the base car is well equipped with standard “intelligent” key and push-button ignition, remote keyless entry, a manual tilt/telescoping steering column, automatic temperature control and a 6-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with a 7-inch color display, MP3 playback capability, Radio Data System (RDS) and console-mounted auxiliary input. Major stand-alone options include Infiniti’s exclusive 4-Wheel Active Steer system, 19-inch high-performance wheels and tires, moonroof, rear spoiler and African Rosewood interior trim.
An available Premium Package includes a memory system, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power moonroof, heated front seats and side mirrors, anti-glare inside mirror with compass and HomeLink Universal Transceiver, an 11-speaker “Studio on Wheels by Bose” audio system with iPod connection and a Bluetooth hands-free phone system. A Sport Package (standard on the Sport 6MT) adds a unique front fascia and side sills, 19-inch performance wheels and tires, a viscous limited-slip differential, sport seats, steering wheel, suspension and brakes, and aluminum pedals and paddle shifters.
A Navigation Package brings a voice activated touch-screen nav system with available XM real-time traffic info, a 9.3-gB Music Box hard drive with compact flash-drive slot and a terrific RearView Monitor. A Technology Package adds Intelligent Cruise Control (which maintains a precise distance from the vehicle ahead), Adaptive Front Lighting (which automatically adjusts the headlight pattern to the steering angle and vehicle speed) and a “Pre-Crash” seatbelt system.
Standard safety features include an Advanced Air Bag System with dual-stage front bags with seatbelt and occupant classification sensors, front side and two-row side curtain bags. Also standard are front seatbelt pretensioners, load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, driver and front-passenger knee bolsters and active front head restraints.
